Notion AI disables Anthropic models for 12 hours after performance degradation

Notion’s integration with Anthropic hit a snag this weekend when degraded performance on Anthropic’s Opus 4.7 and 4.8 models led to a spike in failures for users selecting those models in Notion AI. In response, Notion disabled use of all Anthropic models across its automated productivity tool early Sunday morning. The outage lasted roughly 12 hours, during which Notion’s announcement on X garnered approximately 1,200 reposts. Notion’s head of product, Max Schoening, later expressed astonishment at the attention, emphasizing that temporary service disruptions are routine for even the most reliable platforms, including Notion itself, GitHub, AWS, and others.

Anthropic confirmed that a brief infrastructure issue caused elevated errors on multiple Claude models for a short period, and the problem has since been resolved. Notion restored access to Anthropic’s models, and Schoening noted that the degraded performance was simply a temporary service disruption—not a reflection of model quality. The incident underscores the fragility of AI-integrated tools when dependent on third-party model providers, even as both companies insist the issue was minor and quickly fixed.
