Meta's Free AI Muse Now Wants to Run Your Errands

A free AI helper that lives in your glasses, laptop, and inbox.

Deep Dive

Meta is going all-in on Muse, its personal AI agent that launched in early September. At its annual Connect event, CEO Mark Zuckerberg rolled out a batch of new capabilities: Muse users will soon be able to conjure a distinct digital avatar for their agent and video chat with it in real time, and Muse is coming to Meta's smart glasses, where it activates via a wake word and can guide a personalized workout, log meals, book an appointment, and help buy products you see. Meta is also bringing Muse to Mac, where it can operate any app on your desktop — as Meta's chief AI officer Alexandr Wang put it, "You can walk away from your computer and it keeps working for you." Muse is getting its own email address, too, and users will be able to add it to a thread or forward emails for it to handle. Meta has locked in partnerships with Stripe and Shopify, and says Muse can access the entire Shopify catalog agentically and use Lync and Shop Pay to buy almost anything on the internet, plus added support for PayPal. Zuckerberg said Meta is making Muse free for a huge number of tokens, with the expectation that it will profit over time by taking a small fee from transactions.

Key Points
  • Muse is Meta's free AI assistant that plugs into your email, calendar, and apps to do tasks for you — now with a video-chat avatar you can talk to.
  • It's coming to Meta's smart glasses (wake word activated) and Mac computers, where it can run apps and keep working after you walk away.
  • Meta partnered with Stripe and Shopify, hinting Muse will eventually earn money by taking a small fee when you buy things through it.

Why It Matters
