New Survey: Even Daily AI Users Are Anxious About the Tech

Half the world uses AI daily — and still isn't sure it can be trusted.

Deep Dive

A new Gallup survey, paid for by Microsoft, asked roughly 1,000 people in each of 37 countries between April and July how they feel about AI. The surprise is that how much you use AI does not predict how you feel about it. About 68% of Americans who use AI every day say it worries them anyway. Overall, 74% of Americans feel concerned and only 36% expect AI to mostly help the country — the highest anxiety measured anywhere in the study.

The rest of the world tells a different story. In Singapore, 46% of people use AI daily and more than 80% expect it to improve their everyday lives. In China and Israel, most people think AI will help their country. Trust in AI's answers follows the same pattern: frequent users in high-adoption countries believe its results more, while in the US only 45% of daily users share that confidence. Globally, just 36% say they trust AI's output a lot.

Why should you care? If you use ChatGPT or similar tools at work, you are in the majority — but this survey shows comfort and use are two different things. Employers are rushing AI into offices, clinics, and classrooms while the people actually using it remain uneasy. That gap has real consequences: worried users check answers more carefully, which is exactly what safety experts recommend, and it undercuts the "everyone loves AI" story tech companies keep telling.

The catch is timing. These numbers come from surveys taken between April and July, and major countries are missing, including India, Australia, and Malaysia — a big omission given how many tech workers live in India. The full project will eventually cover 140 countries. Meanwhile AI keeps getting more powerful and more debated, and US and Chinese leaders are now set to discuss AI safety directly, so these attitudes may already have shifted.

Key Points
  • Nearly 7 in 10 Americans who use AI every day say it worries them, even though they keep using it.
  • Only about a third of people worldwide say they trust AI's answers a lot.
  • Singapore and China are far more upbeat than the US and Canada, where anxiety runs highest.

Why It Matters

If AI is part of your workday, expect more anxious coworkers, more fact-checking, and louder calls for safety rules.
