Microsoft launches ‘vibe working’ in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Copilot now edits Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in real time...
Microsoft has launched Agent Mode for Copilot inside Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, now the default experience for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Premium subscribers. Previously described as 'vibe working,' the upgrade lets the AI directly manipulate documents—adding formulas in Excel, updating slides in PowerPoint while preserving styling, and editing text in Word. A new sidebar displays each step in real time, making the process transparent.
This shift addresses a key limitation: earlier Copilot could answer questions but not take direct action on documents. Microsoft's Sumit Chauhan credits improved foundation models for enabling reliable multi-step edits. The feature is also available with Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plans, extending agentic AI to a broader audience.
- Agent Mode is now the default for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Premium subscribers
- Copilot can directly edit documents, add Excel formulas, and update PowerPoint decks
- A sidebar shows every action in real time for transparency
Why It Matters
Agent Mode transforms Copilot from a passive assistant to an active editor, boosting productivity across Office apps.
