Google's Gemini Nano Banana image gen goes free for US users

Google announced on Monday that Gemini's Personalized AI image generation — powered by Nano Banana — is now free for all eligible US users. The feature, previously restricted to Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers, creates images that reflect your unique interests without requiring explicit prompts. It taps into data from connected Google services like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search to understand your preferences. For instance, you can simply say "Create an illustration of me and my favorite things" and Gemini will infer your likes (e.g., coffee, baking) from your account. It can also pull actual photos of you from Google Photos, eliminating the need to manually upload.

This move follows Google's earlier rollout of Personal Intelligence to all US users in March, with expansions to India and Japan. The feature is opt-in, with a new toggle in the Tools menu to disable it. Additionally, Google recently revealed future Gemini updates: a "Daily Brief" feature, a revamped interface, access to the Omni video AI model, and a personal agent called Gemini Spark. With over 750 million monthly active users, Gemini continues to solidify its position as a major AI player, and this free image gen update could accelerate adoption further.
