Deezer launches AI music detector identifying synthetic tracks across streaming platforms
Deezer's free detector scans 20 platforms in 27 languages, finds AI tracks.
Deezer has launched a free online AI music detector that scans playlists from 20 popular streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube Music, supporting 27 languages. Announced on Thursday, the tool allows users to import their playlists and receive notifications if any tracks are AI-generated. CEO Alexis Lanternier stated, "By detecting and tagging AI-generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency... No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music." The launch positions Deezer as the most aggressive opponent of AI music among streaming services, actively removing AI tracks from recommendations and editorial playlists, unlike rivals Apple Music and Spotify which only tag such content.
The tool's release comes amid staggering statistics from Deezer: 44% of all new music uploaded to its platform is AI-generated, with nearly 75,000 AI tracks daily, totaling over two million each month. Despite this influx, AI-generated music accounts for only 1-3% of total streams, and a massive 85% of those streams are flagged as fraudulent and demonetized. Deezer has been offering its AI detection technology to rival platforms and is considering further steps like updating supplier policies or removing content, following Bandcamp's decision to ban AI music earlier this year. This tool empowers consumers across platforms to verify the authenticity of their playlists, addressing growing concerns about copyright infringement and streaming fraud in the music industry.
