Anthropic expands Claude voice mode to Opus and Sonnet, integrates with Gmail and Slack

Anthropic is significantly upgrading Claude's voice mode by making it available on its Opus and Sonnet models—the company's most advanced reasoning engines. Previously limited to the faster, lighter Haiku model, voice mode could only handle simple, quick queries. Now, with Opus and Sonnet, users can talk through complex business problems and receive deep analysis. The company notes that early users naturally started using voice mode for serious work, prompting this expansion. Sonnet and Opus are designed for hard problem-solving: they can turn a spoken conversation into a polished one-page pitch, reschedule meetings when a train runs late, or perform multi-step actions across integrated apps.

Alongside model support, Anthropic is embedding voice mode directly into popular productivity apps like Gmail, Slack, and Canva. This means users can dictate emails, search conversations, or generate designs by voice without leaving the app. Voice mode now also supports 10 languages out of beta: French, German, Spanish, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. A key usability feature is the ability to switch between text and voice mid-conversation, and even between different Claude models—starting a quick Haiku chat and bumping it to Opus for deeper exploration. These upgrades make Claude a more versatile voice assistant for professionals who need to move from quick queries to substantive, action-oriented dialogues.
