Chrome now lets you turn AI prompts into repeatable ‘Skills’
Chrome users can now save any Gemini prompt as a reusable 'Skill' with a single click, eliminating repetitive typing.
Google is introducing a significant productivity upgrade for Chrome users with its new 'Skills' feature. This workflow tool allows any prompt used with the integrated Gemini AI to be saved as a repeatable command, or 'Skill.' Once saved, these Skills can be executed with a single click across any selected browser tabs, eliminating the need to manually retype or copy-paste common instructions. The feature is rolling out starting today for Chrome users with their language set to US English. Access is managed by typing a forward slash (/) in the Gemini sidebar and clicking the compass icon. Skills created on one desktop device are automatically synced and available on any other desktop Chrome browser signed into the same Google account.
According to Chrome product manager Hafsah Ismail, the goal is to streamline repetitive AI tasks, such as asking for ingredient substitutions to veganize a recipe across different cooking sites. Early testers have created Skills for calculating nutritional information from online recipes and generating side-by-side comparisons of product specs while shopping. To help users get started, Google is also launching a library of preset Skills that can be saved, used immediately, or customized. This provides a template for common tasks without requiring users to build prompts from scratch, aiming to make AI assistance in the browser more efficient and personalized.
