Anthropic's Claude Tag becomes an AI teammate in Slack with persistent context

Anthropic is launching Claude Tag, an always-on Claude that lives inside Slack as an AI teammate. Building on existing integrations that allowed DMs and channel mentions, Claude Tag adds persistent context and memory, so it learns about your team's work over time. Users can tag @Claude for on-demand help, assign tasks that it breaks down into stages and executes, or let it run in ambient mode — proactively flagging updates, surfacing information from across the organization, and following up on forgotten threads.

System administrators define which channels, tools, and information each Claude identity can access, ensuring a legal channel's Claude can't seed memories into engineering. Everyone in a shared channel sees the same Claude, enabling handoffs and shared context. Anthropic positions this as a real collaborative colleague, not just a chatbot. The launch comes amid a broader push for enterprise context layers — Microsoft's Graph powers Copilot, Snowflake and Databricks offer organizational knowledge backing, and Glean builds a context-aware intelligence layer between models and enterprise data.
