Hong Kong dog mauling kills 33-year-old pet trainer in Ta Kwu Ling

Police in Hong Kong confirmed that a 33-year-old woman who operated a pet training facility in the northern district of Ta Kwu Ling was found dead after being attacked by a dog on Thursday afternoon. According to Border police district assistant commander Matthew Chan Kai-chak, CCTV footage shows the woman working alone at the facility in Ping Yeung Tsuen when she attempted to return a one-year-old mongrel to its cage after feeding it at approximately 2pm. The dog, which stood about one metre tall, refused and attacked her for roughly one minute, inflicting wounds to her head, neck, lower jaw and both arms. The footage then shows the woman and the dog leaving the facility and walking toward a lawn area, where she later collapsed. Police received a report at 4.12pm and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

This tragic incident has amplified existing concerns over the management of large dogs in Hong Kong, following a separate episode earlier this week in which an unleashed 60kg canine fatally attacked two smaller pets. The victim operated a professional pet training business, raising questions about safety protocols even for those experienced with animals. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities analyzing the CCTV evidence and the dog's behaviour. The case has prompted renewed debate among residents and lawmakers about stricter leash laws, mandatory training for owners of large breeds, and liability for private pet facilities.
