Apple's WWDC 2026: Siri gets Gemini AI, standalone app, and agent store

Apple's WWDC 2026 kicks off Monday with a slew of AI-focused updates. The most anticipated is a sweeping Siri overhaul that leverages Google's Gemini technology, transforming the assistant into a conversational powerhouse. Siri will understand context, handle multi-step tasks, and interact naturally across apps and services. A leaked standalone Siri app aims to compete directly with advanced AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, with optional auto-deletion timers for conversations (30 days, 1 year, or indefinite). Additionally, Apple plans an AI agent integration within the App Store, allowing users to delegate tasks like booking reservations, managing errands, editing documents, or controlling smart home devices.

Camera and Photos apps receive significant upgrades: a new "Visual Intelligence" mode replaces the previous Camera Control button feature, using Google Image Search to identify objects. The Photos app gains AI-powered scene recommendations, automatic object removal, and natural language photo editing. Image Playground gets higher-quality generation, more artistic styles, better character consistency, and a simplified interface with a "describe a change" option.
