Tencent Cloud Launches Global AI Game Development Hackathon

Tencent Cloud, in collaboration with Tencent WeTech Academy, has officially launched its 2026 'AI CAN DO IT' Global Game Development Hackathon. Announced during a campus tour at the University of Hong Kong, the competition is a direct initiative to cultivate what the company calls the "AI-Native generation" of game designers. Freda Xu, Vice President of Marketing at Tencent Cloud, emphasized that AI is breaking down traditional programming barriers, enabling not just computer science students but also those from design, arts, and humanities backgrounds to bring their creative visions to life. The hackathon is structured around three core pillars: Social Good, Cultural Expression, and Narrative Innovation.

Participants are tasked with integrating AI across the entire game development supply chain, including elements like world-building, concept art, audio design, and even safety systems. The competition spans five major regions: Hong Kong and Macau SAR, East China, North China, South China, and Southeast Asia. Campus and regional winners will advance to the global finals, which will be held at the prestigious Tencent Global Digital Ecosystem Summit in September 2026. The top prize is a significant incentive—a token prize pool valued at millions of Hong Kong dollars. This move positions Tencent Cloud at the forefront of leveraging AI to democratize and reshape creative industries, specifically targeting the next wave of talent in the booming global gaming market.
