Music creation platform Splice has launched a suite of three AI-powered tools designed to transform its catalog of over 3 million human-made samples while guaranteeing compensation for original creators. The new features—Variations, Craft, and Magic Fit—integrate generative AI capabilities directly into producers' workflows. The headline tool, Variations, allows users to generate new versions of any sample in the catalog, adjusting structure, key, and BPM while preserving the original sound's core characteristics. Crucially, Splice's system keeps every generated sound traceable, and the original creator is compensated each time their sample is used as a source and each time a variation is downloaded.
This launch represents a significant step in Splice's aggressive AI expansion, following its 2025 acquisition of virtual instrument library Spitfire Audio for a reported $50 million and its 2026 purchase of AI voice platform Kits AI. The company, valued at nearly $500 million in 2021, also has a partnership with Universal Music Group to develop AI tools. According to Splice CEO Kakul Srivastava, the tools are designed to extend the traditional sampling workflow by enabling sounds to be "reshaped and reimagined" while reinforcing the value of original work. All output from the AI tools is licensed for commercial use, addressing a major concern for professional producers.
