Reflection AI signs $6.3B SpaceX deal for Nvidia GB300 chips

Open source AI startup Reflection has secured a massive compute deal with SpaceX, committing $150 million per month starting July 1, 2026 through 2029 for access to Nvidia's latest GB300 AI chips and supporting hardware at SpaceX's Colossus 2 data center near Memphis, Tennessee. The deal is valued at up to $6.3 billion, though either party can exit with 90 days' notice after the first three months. This is smaller than previous SpaceX compute deals with Anthropic ($1.25 billion/month) and Google ($920 million/month), which also run through July 2029. Elon Musk has downplayed the three-year term, emphasizing cancellability.

Reflection, founded in 2024 by two former Google DeepMind researchers, is using this agreement to promote its open-weight AI strategy—releasing trained model parameters publicly. The company argues this is crucial after the U.S. government banned Anthropic's closed models Fable and Mythos. The startup claims this is one of the largest announced open AI infrastructure commitments to date. The Colossus data center was originally built by xAI (founded by Musk) for its own AI work but now rents out GPU capacity to top labs as xAI's internal efforts faltered.
