This creates a closed-loop scientific workflow: AI proposes new materials, simulations narrow the options, autonomous labs test the most promising candidates, and results feed back to improve the models. As Ashley Llorens, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft Research, wrote, this loop has the potential to dramatically shorten the path from hypotheses to validated discoveries. Microsoft says this approach lets researchers explore a much larger materials design space than traditional methods allow. The company has not disclosed specific performance figures or a timetable for the project.
