Kontron's Edge AI Play: Intel Panther Lake Platforms Cut Complexity, Boost Performance
New Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips bring AI inference to industrial edge devices
Kontron AG, a leading provider of IoT and embedded computer technology, is strengthening its edge AI position through a strategic collaboration with Intel. The new Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (code-named Panther Lake) combines CPU, GPU, and NPU into a highly integrated chip, enabling more compact, energy-efficient, and cost-effective IoT solutions. This architecture reduces hardware requirements and system complexity, allowing faster deployment of AI applications at the edge. Key target markets include robotics, automation, and safety-critical sectors like defense, aviation, and infrastructure, where real-time data processing and security are paramount.
To address these needs, Kontron has developed the VX30101 high-performance computing board, specifically designed for real-time edge AI workloads. Market launch is expected in Q3 2026. Kontron is among the first to offer Panther Lake in embedded form, having already introduced single-board computers and box PCs based on the architecture earlier in January 2026. According to Kontron's Executive Board member Philipp Schulz, Panther Lake shifts AI performance significantly to the edge, resulting in simpler system architectures and new application opportunities. This move underscores Kontron's strategic focus on edge AI as a key growth driver for the coming years.
