Facebook Now Lets You Tell Its AI What You Want to See

⚡You can finally control your feed—no more endless scrolling past stuff you hate.

Deep Dive

Facebook just gave you a new way to control what you see. On Tuesday, Meta introduced a feature called 'Your Algorithm' that lets you tell Facebook, in your own words, what kind of content you want more or less of in your Feed and Reels. Instead of the app guessing based on your clicks, you can now type something like 'show me more cooking videos' or 'less political news,' and Facebook will adjust your recommendations on the spot.

The tool also makes it easier to give feedback on individual posts. Facebook updated its three-dot menu so you can quickly say you're 'Interested' or 'Not interested' in a post, or jump straight to 'Your Algorithm' to fine-tune your preferences. Sometimes Facebook will even ask follow-up questions to better understand what you liked or disliked, so you can explain in more detail.

This move is part of a bigger trend. Meta first brought 'Your Algorithm' to Instagram in June, and now it's on Facebook. Threads also has a similar feature called 'Dear Algo.' It signals a shift away from the old way social media worked—where mysterious algorithms decided everything—toward a model more like Netflix or Spotify, where you tell the service what you like and it learns from you.

For everyday users, this means less frustration and more of what you actually enjoy. You won't have to scroll past endless posts that don't interest you. And if you're worried about spending too much time on the app, you can now actively shape your experience to be more meaningful. It's a small but significant step toward putting you in charge of your own feed.

Key Points
  • Facebook's new 'Your Algorithm' lets you type what you want to see more or less of in your feed and Reels.
  • You can also use the three-dot menu on any post to quickly say 'Interested' or 'Not interested' and adjust your preferences.
  • The feature is already on Instagram and Threads, showing a bigger shift toward user-controlled recommendations across Meta's apps.

Why It Matters

You can now shape your Facebook feed to show what you actually want, saving time and reducing annoyance.
