Apple Hires AI Podcast Team to Make Your Shows Personal
Your podcast app might soon create shows just for you—here's what that means.
Apple has agreed to bring on some team members and technology from Huxe, a personalized audio startup, in what's commonly known as a reverse acqui-hire. In a filing with the European Commission, Apple said it would make employment offers to "certain employees of Huxe AI" and "receive a non-exclusive license to Huxe's intellectual property rights." The filing doesn't say who received offers, whether they accepted, or what Apple plans to do.
Huxe was founded by developers who'd previously worked on the AI-generated podcast features in NotebookLM, and it announced on May 21 that it was shutting down, pulling its app from the Apple and Google stores and deleting user data. Apple notified the European Commission of the deal on June 9. Possibly related: Huxe's shutdown came a day after Spotify unveiled its own AI-powered podcast generation features, so according to the article, Apple could be hoping to add similar functionality to its Podcasts app.
- Apple hired the team behind Huxe, a startup that made AI-generated personalized podcasts.
- This 'reverse acqui-hire' lets Apple get talent and tech without buying the company outright.
- If Apple adds this to its Podcasts app, you might soon get custom AI shows tailored to your interests.
Why It Matters
Your podcast app could soon create personalized AI shows, changing how you discover and listen to audio.
