D-Robotics Brings a Robot Brain That Works Without Wi-Fi
The AI that runs your phone may soon run a robot arm.
D-Robotics says its team will be at ROSCon Global 2026 in Toronto, September 22–24, at booth #48. ROSCon is the yearly gathering for people who build robots using ROS 2 — think of ROS 2 as the free, shared "nervous system" software that lets a robot's camera, motor, and sensors talk to each other, so every company doesn't have to reinvent it from scratch.
The main draw is a demo pairing D-Robotics' RDK X5 board with a Piper robotic arm. The board handles perception and AI inference — plain English: the robot looks at the world and decides what it's seeing, right there on the device. Nothing gets sent to a distant data center. That means faster reactions, no monthly cloud bill, and it still works when the Wi-Fi drops.
D-Robotics also appears through LooperRobotics, whose Insight line puts RDK X5 modules inside products for "spatial AI" — software that understands where objects sit in three dimensions, not just that a chair exists somewhere in a photo. That's the difference between recognizing a mug and knowing it's twenty centimeters to the left, which is exactly what a robot needs to reach out and grab it.
The catch: this is a conference booth, not a product you can order. D-Robotics is courting engineers, and most hardware like this lands in warehouses, farms, and factories long before it reaches your home. Still, the direction is clear — robot brains are getting small, cheap, and offline. When that happens, robots stop being lab experiments and start being appliances.
