Apple leak reveals HomePad, new HomePod mini, and security camera

A recent macOS software build has leaked references to ten unreleased Apple devices, giving us our clearest look yet at the company's smart home roadmap. The most notable is the J490/J491 Home Hub — a 7-inch square display long rumored as the "HomePad" — which may come in multiple finishes and one version with a speaker base. The leak also reveals a new HomePod mini (model B525, succeeding the current B520) and an Apple-branded Home security camera. These join expected launches like the iPhone 18 lineup, a foldable iPhone, camera-equipped AirPods (B790), and a future Vision headset.

Apple is expected to announce these at its September iPhone event, with the smart home hub possibly shipping in October or early 2027 at around $350. The upgrade to a gen-AI-powered Siri, arriving this fall, is key to making the HomePad competitive against Amazon's Echo Show 8 ($180) and Google's Nest Hub ($100). However, the author cautions that Apple's premium pricing could stifle adoption, similar to the Vision Pro.
