Claude May Soon Link to Your Bank Account — Here's Why That Matters

Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI assistant, looks like it's preparing to connect directly to your bank account. Screenshots spotted inside the Claude iPhone app show a new "Money" section, inviting users to "link your bank accounts and ask Claude about spending, plans, and more." The company hasn't announced anything officially — no launch date, no price, no list of supported banks.

So what would it actually do? Based on the screenshots, Claude Money could read your transactions, spot repeating charges, summarize your balances, flag spending trends, and help you think through budgets just by asking questions in plain English. Think of it as a financial assistant that already knows your last three months of spending, instead of you scrolling through a banking app trying to add things up yourself. The payoff is real: you might finally catch that $14 subscription you forgot about two years ago.

The big unknown is how the connection would work — and what Claude would be allowed to do with it. Most likely, Anthropic would team up with a company like Plaid, the same service OpenAI uses to connect bank accounts to ChatGPT. That setup lets an app see approved details like balances and transactions, but not move your money. OpenAI's version stops at analysis, not action. Claude Money probably works the same way, though nothing confirmed yet suggests it can't eventually go further.

The catch is privacy. Your bank data is far more sensitive than your calendar or email. Handing an AI your full spending history means trusting that company with a very detailed picture of your life — where you shop, what you earn, who you pay.
