Alibaba Consolidates AI Units into Token Hub, Preps Qwen3.7-Max for Agentic Coding

Alibaba has restructured its artificial intelligence operations, launching the 'Alibaba Token Hub Business Group' in March 2026. The new entity merges five previously separate divisions: Tongyi Laboratory (its flagship AI research lab), Model-as-a-Service (MaaS) offerings, the Qwen Business Unit (responsible for the open-source Qwen model family), the Wukong Business Unit (focusing on AI-powered search and multimedia), and the AI Innovation Business Unit (experimental projects). This consolidation aims to streamline development, reduce duplication, and accelerate go-to-market for enterprise AI products under a single leadership structure.

In parallel, Alibaba confirmed continued releases of its Qwen large language models, with the next flagship—Qwen3.7-Max—launching in May. The model is specifically optimized for agentic coding and complex reasoning, enabling AI agents to autonomously write, debug, and refactor code across multi-step workflows. Early benchmarks suggest Qwen3.7-Max rivals top proprietary models in coding accuracy and logical deduction. The reorganization and model roadmap signal Alibaba's determination to compete head-to-head with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google in the enterprise AI and developer tools market, leveraging its cloud infrastructure and massive domestic user base.
