xAI launches Grok Build 0.1 coding model and Skills for persistent expertise

Deep Dive

xAI unveiled three major updates: the Grok Build 0.1 coding model, the new Skills feature for Grok 4.3, and OpenCode integration. Grok Build 0.1 is a purpose-built model for agentic coding, designed to handle complex development tasks autonomously. It is currently in early access and serves as the engine behind xAI's terminal-based coding agent. Developers can now connect their SuperGrok or X Premium subscription to OpenCode (installable via a simple curl command) and begin coding with Grok Build in browser, remote, or headless setups. The integration also supports OAuth for SSH/VPS environments, with more open-source agents promised soon.

On the productivity front, xAI launched Skills for Grok 4.3, available across web, iOS, and Android. Skills allow users to define persistent custom expertise – formatting rules, workflow steps, or any recurring preferences – that Grok remembers across all conversations. Out of the box, users get built-in skills for generating fully formatted Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and PDF reports. Users can also create custom skills by describing them in conversation, uploading a file, or writing from scratch. The feature requires no setup beyond a standard Grok subscription, making it easy to automate document generation and data analysis tasks directly within the chat interface.
