Elon Musk's Grok AI Is Now Sold Inside Amazon's Cloud

Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, has added its newest model, Grok 4.6, to Amazon Bedrock — think of Bedrock as Amazon's app store for AI, where companies rent AI brains and plug them into their own products. It went live on August 18, 2026, and it's the second xAI model to show up there. Most people will never open Grok directly. Instead, they'll meet it inside software their employer or bank or airline already pays for.

Grok 4.6 is designed for "agents" — AI that can take actions and work through a project over many steps, rather than answering one question and stopping. xAI says it's built for long research tasks, coding, and office-style knowledge work. One standout number: it can hold about 500,000 words of text in mind at once, roughly a 500-page book, so it doesn't forget the beginning of a long document by the time it reaches the end. xAI also says the model now checks its own work more often before moving on, and can sketch out a working app or visual project in a single pass.

Why should you care? Because Amazon Bedrock is plumbing. When a company wants to add AI to its customer service chat, its billing software, or its internal coding tools, Bedrock is one of the easiest places to do it. A model landing there is a quiet signal that it will show up in ordinary products within months, often without any announcement. Businesses can also dial the model's "thinking effort" up or down — low for quick cheap answers, high for hard problems — which affects both your wait time and who pays for it.

The catch: nearly all the impressive numbers here come from xAI itself, and independent testing is still catching up. xAI claims strong safety testing, but claims aren't proof, and Musk's companies have drawn scrutiny over how they handle data and content. There's also no simple public price for everyday users, because this is a business product. Someone has to set it up.
