xAI's Grok Imagine image and video generation feature reaches completion

Elon Musk announced the completion of xAI's Grok Imagine feature with a simple two-word post on July 5: 'Done with Grok Imagine.' The milestone marks the end of active development for the image and video generation capability, moving it into a stable phase. Grok Imagine has been in development since August 2025, with an initial beta debut in October 2025. It first launched to SuperGrok and Premium+ subscribers on the Grok iOS app, with Android access later extended to Heavy users. The feature is also integrated directly within the X app, giving it a distribution channel of hundreds of millions of users.

Under the hood, Grok Imagine uses xAI's proprietary Aurora model to convert text prompts into images. It supports seven aspect ratios and a wide range of visual styles, with particular strength in accurate text rendering within generated images—a common weakness among competing tools. The feature also handles short-form video generation. Musk's declaration likely signals the end of the core development cycle, not the end of iteration.
