AI Safety Program Gets 44% of Grads Hired in 6 Weeks
A new bootcamp is filling AI safety jobs fast — could this be your career path?
A program called Generator Residency just wrapped up its first run, and the results are impressive. It's designed to help people break into AI safety — not as researchers, but as generalists who do operations, management, and other support work. Six weeks after finishing, 12 out of 27 participants (that's 44%) had been hired full-time by major AI safety organizations like METR, BlueDot Impact, and others. Most of the rest have offers and are deciding.
The program was created because AI safety groups were struggling to fill key non-research roles. They got plenty of applicants, but few met basic requirements. Generator gives people hands-on experience and mentorship to become strong candidates. Residents worked on real projects, like running programs and building tools, often with established organizations. Some even got hired by the same groups they worked with during the residency.
Based on feedback, the next round will have two tracks: one for people who want to explore different roles, and one for those who want to build a specific project to help them get hired. The program also learned that letting residents organize their own activities — like game nights and hikes — made them feel more integrated than scheduled events. Applications for the second round, running from January to April 2027, are due November 1st.
So what does this mean for you? If you're curious about AI safety but don't have a research background, this shows there's a real path to a job. The program is competitive, but the success rate is high. Even if you don't get in, the trend is clear: AI safety organizations need diverse talent, and they're willing to hire from nontraditional programs.
