USGA launches Rules AI to instantly answer golf regulations queries

The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced the pilot launch of Rules AI, an innovative tool designed to make the Rules of Golf instantly accessible via the GHIN mobile app. Built in collaboration with Deloitte, this first-of-its-kind AI is trained on more than 25,000 specific rules queries handled by USGA staff and leverages over 130 years of proprietary data. Unlike generic AI models, Rules AI uses a confidence-first architecture that draws exclusively from up-to-date, verified USGA content, ensuring answers are rooted in official regulations and practical nuance.

The pilot is already rolling out to select golf clubs, allowing the USGA to refine the experience before a full release to all golfers by spring 2027. Members of Allied Golf Associations will gain access in phases over the coming months. USGA CEO Mike Whan emphasized that the tool bridges tradition and innovation, meeting golfers where they are—on the course and on mobile. Deloitte’s Chad Deweese noted the partnership translated an AI vision into a production-grade experience, making expert-level rules knowledge more accessible for confident, fair play.
