Hong Kong Academy (HKA), a leading IB World School, is introducing the Maker's Atelier for its Pre-K learners beginning August 2026. This optional afternoon program is Reggio-inspired and designed to extend the IB PYP curriculum through practical, tactile modules. The program leverages HKA's advanced facilities and specialized early childhood educators to create an environment where children are treated as competent, curious researchers. Activities are conducted in a supportive dual-language (English and Chinese) setting, enabling young students to explore physical and natural sciences through material-based inquiry.
The Maker's Atelier is structured around six distinct inquiry modules. Primitive Pottery & Earth Glazes teaches material transformation and fine motor control. Regeneration & Gardening immerses children in soil ecology and seasonal cycles. Culinary Arts & Food Science applies math and chemistry concepts through measuring, mixing, and observing phase changes. Outdoor Education builds gross motor skills and environmental empathy. Fiber Arts & Heritage Weaving introduces mathematical sequencing and persistence. Woodwork & Tinkering lets children use real tools to explore force, angles, and balance. The program emphasizes flexibility to accommodate each child's needs while building critical skills for lifelong learning.
