Vietnam Floods Kill 3 as 16,000 Homes Go Underwater
Record rain, washed-out trains, and crops destroyed — and more is coming.
Torrential rain in northern Vietnam has killed three people and inundated more than 16,000 homes. Some areas have received as much as 653mm (26 inches) of rain since Monday, damaging rice and other crops across more than 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres). National and provincial roads were affected by 11 landslides and flooding in 30 locations, causing traffic tie-ups, and the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City railway was flooded to a depth of about one metre. More heavy rain is expected from Thanh Hoa province to the city of Hue through the weekend, with some areas forecast to receive over 100mm.
