Wispr Flow's Notetaker joins meetings with 6-hour AI transcription

Wispr Flow, the AI dictation startup led by CEO Tanay Kothari, is expanding into meeting transcription with the launch of Notetaker. The tool connects to users' calendars, silently listens to meetings, and produces real-time verbatim transcripts — even capturing filler sounds like “mm-hmm.” After the meeting, generative AI summarizes the conversation and feeds it into a chatbot-style interface for follow-up questions. In a hands-on test, the live transcription was accurate, and the “ask anything” feature correctly located a specific quote from a 30-minute conversation when queried with “year of ai notetakers quote.” The feature launches first on Mac, with Windows support expected later.

Notetaker's biggest technical shift is extending maximum meeting recording length from 6 minutes to 6 hours, a response to users juggling multiple starts and stops. Wispr also includes a Privacy Mode that prevents dictation data from being used in AI model training. Kothari emphasizes that users should always disclose when Notetaker is transcribing, citing legal requirements — California, where Wispr is based, requires all-party consent for private recordings — and basic trust. The release pits Wispr directly against Granola AI and Otter AI, both popular meeting-capture tools, as AI notetakers become Silicon Valley's default assumption in business conversations.
