Amazon Bedrock's managed entitlements cut multi-account AI model access overhead

Managing AI model access across dozens or hundreds of AWS accounts creates a dilemma: either grant AWS Marketplace permissions broadly, risking governance issues, or manually enable subscriptions in each account. Amazon Bedrock's new managed entitlements solve this by letting you subscribe to third-party models (like Anthropic Claude and Cohere) once from a central management account and distribute access via AWS License Manager. The workflow involves four steps: subscribe to a model through AWS Marketplace from the management account, create a license in License Manager, create grants for member accounts, and verify access. Prerequisites include AWS Organizations with all features enabled, access to the management account, and service-linked roles for License Manager and AWS Marketplace.

Managed entitlements are specifically for AWS Marketplace models (Anthropic, Cohere, AI21 Labs, Stability AI). They are not needed for Amazon-owned models (Amazon Nova) or partner models sold by Amazon (Meta, Mistral, DeepSeek), which are available immediately with Bedrock permissions. Benefits include centralized governance, consistent private offer pricing across accounts, and reduced operational overhead. Organizations that operate in a single account or let teams manage their own subscriptions may not need this feature. Important considerations include regional behavior (entitlements are region-specific) and support for private offers. This capability complements Bedrock's existing model evaluation and guardrails features.
