Amazon's AI Can Now Build You an App With Live Company Data

⚡No more stale spreadsheets — your numbers update the moment you open the app.

Deep Dive

Amazon has a tool called Quick that turns a plain-English description into a working business app, with no coding required. Until now, those apps were a bit like a printed report: any numbers inside were frozen at the moment the app was published. Amazon's new feature, Live Data in Apps, changes that. Every time someone opens the app, it quietly re-runs the query against your company's real data and shows today's answer instead of last month's.

Picture a support team that wants to know how many tickets were closed last week, broken down by region. Today, someone pulls the data, builds a chart, and pastes it into Slack — every single week. With this change, a manager can describe that app in one sentence, and any teammate can open it and get a current answer without knowing SQL (the language used to ask databases questions). No refresh schedules, no snapshot management, no waiting on the data team.

The security angle is the real selling point for larger companies. The app runs its query as the person viewing it, so your existing rules about which rows and columns each employee may see apply automatically. Nobody has to invent a new permission system, and sensitive numbers stay hidden from people who shouldn't see them. Amazon also checks consent on its own servers on every single query, not inside the app where someone might tamper with it.

There are catches. Viewers must be signed-in Quick users, so you can't share one of these apps publicly or anonymously. Each person has to consent to each dataset the first time they use it, and both the person building the app and the people opening it need a paid Reader Pro account. It also only works with datasets already set up inside Quick — this isn't a magic plug into everything your company stores.

Key Points
  • Amazon Quick lets you describe an app in plain English and an AI builds it; now those apps pull live numbers instead of frozen ones
  • Each viewer automatically sees only the data they're permitted to see, using your company's existing permission rules
  • You need a paid Quick account and a sign-in to use it — no public or anonymous sharing

Why It Matters

Less time copying charts into Slack every week, and fresher, safer numbers for everyone.
