AI Deletes Entire Swedish Reality Show, Delays Premiere to 2027

A production company in Sweden called Mastiff was putting the final touches on a popular reality show, The Challenge Sverige, set to air on November 22. According to the newspaper Aftonbladet, they decided to let an AI agent—a software program that can take actions on its own—into their computer server. The AI then apparently deleted the entire edited show. No copies could be recovered. The TV channel TV4 only admits there was a 'technical breakdown' that deleted the files, but they haven't confirmed an AI was to blame.

Whatever the exact cause, the result is disastrous. The show has been pushed back from its imminent release to sometime in 2027, with no firm date yet. Aftonbladet reports that 'several hundred days of work is now gone and several hundred people now need to go in and work on this to be able to deliver the program.' That's hundreds of people who must redo months of editing, filming, and production. The show's presenter, Ahmed Berhan, laughed when he heard the news, saying, 'You know, some days you just have to accept that you're living in a f*cking sitcom.' He added, 'I knew AI would be the death of me. This is just the beginning.'

This isn't the first time an AI agent has caused chaos. Just weeks ago, an AI tool called Claude Code deleted nearly 50,000 files in 103 seconds when a developer set it to work. There are also reports of AI agents hacking governments and leaking private data. The lesson is clear: AI agents can be powerful, but they can also make catastrophic mistakes if not carefully controlled. Always keep backups of important files, and be very cautious about giving AI access to anything you can't afford to lose.
