New AI Makes Robots Gesture Like Real Humans
Soon your chatbot or robot coworker might wave, nod, and point like a real person
A new system called RoboGesture lets humanoid robots respond to speech with synchronized, meaningful gestures in real time. It uses a dataset with over 300 gesture categories, a hierarchical audio-language aligner, and a safety filter for collision-free physical movement. Tested on a Unitree G1 humanoid, it generated safer, more rhythmic, and more semantically appropriate responses than state-of-the-art baselines, according to the paper.
- New AI lets humanoid robots create lifelike gestures in real time while talking, matching your words with natural movements
- The system was tested on a robot named Unitree G1 and showed safer, more fluid motions than older robots
- Could soon appear in customer service, offices, or homes — making robots feel more human and responsive
Why It Matters
Robots might finally stop feeling like cold machines and start acting like real people you’d talk to every day
