Robinhood launches AI agent trading with dedicated wallets and virtual credit card

Now your AI agents can trade stocks and make payments directly through Robinhood.

Deep Dive

Robinhood has announced support for AI agentic trading, enabling users to delegate trading and payment tasks to AI agents. Users can create separate accounts for their agents, each linked to a dedicated wallet with a pre-loaded balance. The agents can read and analyze portfolios, suggest trading strategies, and execute orders—but only using the funds in that wallet. All trades are logged and users receive notifications; some orders require manual preview and approval. Robinhood also integrated fraud detection, where a team reviews suspicious trades and assists with disputes. The service connects agents to Robinhood’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing them to assess concentration risk, sector exposure, and analyst notes for new opportunities. The beta currently supports stock trading only, with plans to expand to options, crypto, event contracts, futures, and prediction markets later this year.

In parallel, Robinhood debuted a virtual credit card designed for AI agents. Gold Card holders can link this card to their banking MCP server, enabling agents to make payments autonomously. Users can set monthly spending limits and decide whether the agent needs approval for each transaction. A similar feature will come to the upcoming Robinhood Platinum Card. This move follows Robinhood’s acquisition of AI research platform Pluto in 2024 and the launch of an AI investment assistant last year. VP of Product Abhishek Fatehpuria noted strong customer demand for connecting their own tools and LLMs to Robinhood. Competitors like Stripe, Amazon, Google, and Prava Pay are also building similar AI payment capabilities, signaling a broader shift toward autonomous financial agents.
