Perplexity's Computer for Counsel routes 20+ AI models for legal workflows

Perplexity launched Computer for Counsel on June 24, 2026, for Enterprise and Max subscribers. This agentic AI system targets the administrative burden that consumes nearly 75% of lawyers' time, according to a Thomson Reuters survey. Unlike traditional legal research databases, Computer for Counsel is an orchestration layer that sits on top of existing tools. It decomposes legal tasks into subtasks, routes each to the best of 20+ frontier AI models, and assembles results into briefs, memos, or deal summaries. The system uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect with premium legal sources like Midpage (US case law, statutes, citator), Deel (compliance data across 150+ countries), LegalZoom (contract templates), Docusign, NetDocuments, Box, DeepJudge, and Clio. It also integrates with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and 400+ other tools. Every output links back to its source, allowing attorneys to verify citations in seconds before it enters client work.

Current legal workflows include third-party NDA intake, where the system reviews NDAs, fills in entity info, and routes them for approval via Docusign; regulatory monitoring, building live dashboards for US state privacy laws with Midpage citations; and case research, summarizing key cases after the FTC’s 2024 non-compete ban and exporting a PDF with citations. The multi-model orchestration removes pressure to bet on a single AI vendor, as the model pool is continuously evaluated and updated. Perplexity emphasizes that judgment and strategy stay with the lawyer — Computer for Counsel is a workflow layer, not a Westlaw replacement.
