OpenAI uses your data for spying on everyone and everything.

Exposed code reveals a hidden backend screening users against watchlists and filing SARs to FinCEN.

Deep Dive

Researchers from vmfunc allege OpenAI, Persona, and Fivecast supply user data to a government surveillance system. Evidence from 53 MB of exposed source code points to a backend, openai-watchlistdb.withpersona.com, running since November 2023. The system reportedly uses facial recognition, screens users against sanctions lists, and files Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to FinCEN, retaining biometric data for years without user consent or transparency.

Why It Matters

Allegations suggest user interactions with AI tools could directly feed into law enforcement and intelligence monitoring.
