OpenAI rolls out personal finance hub in ChatGPT for Pro users

OpenAI has introduced a new personal finance feature in ChatGPT called Finances, rolling out to Pro users in the United States. This experience allows users to securely link their financial accounts through Plaid, the same service used by many budgeting apps, and access a comprehensive dashboard. The dashboard aggregates spending, bills, subscriptions, net worth, investment information, and planning goals in one place. Users can ask natural language questions grounded in their own financial data, like 'How much did I spend on dining this month?' or 'What's my net worth?' The feature is available on both web and iOS versions of ChatGPT.

OpenAI emphasizes that Finances is for understanding and planning only — it cannot move money, pay bills, place trades, or file taxes. The company is rolling out the feature gradually, so some eligible users may not see it immediately. Alongside this, OpenAI also shared safety updates improving ChatGPT's recognition of emerging risk in sensitive conversations, particularly around suicide, self-harm, and harm-to-others. The model now better distinguishes subtle or evolving cues and can de-escalate, refuse harmful details, or direct users to crisis resources. Both updates reflect OpenAI's push to make ChatGPT more useful for real-world, personal tasks while maintaining safety guardrails.
