OpenAI Just Built Its Own Office Suite — Word, Slides and All

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, just announced a set of new features that look suspiciously like Microsoft Office. At its developer conference in San Francisco, CEO Sam Altman showed off Space — a shared workspace inside ChatGPT where you and your coworkers can work on files alongside AI assistants. "Your pages and files all live together in Space, like they would in a drive," Altman said. "But spaces feel alive."

The second big piece is Pages, a writing and research tool that works like Word or Google Docs, except AI can help you draft, chart, and design inside it. The third is collaborative slides — a PowerPoint competitor you create just by describing what you want. Coworkers and AI agents can then edit the deck together and leave comments. Slides will roll out to users in the coming weeks.

This matters because OpenAI has been Microsoft's close partner for years, and now it's walking straight into Microsoft's most profitable business: workplace software. Meanwhile, Microsoft and Salesforce are racing the other direction, cramming AI into their own products.
