OpenAI consolidates product under Brockman, merges ChatGPT and Codex for agents
Greg Brockman takes charge of all product as OpenAI merges ChatGPT and Codex into a single agentic platform.
OpenAI announced another executive reshuffle on Friday, consolidating product leadership under president Greg Brockman. In a memo obtained by The Verge, Brockman wrote that OpenAI's product strategy for the year is to go all-in on AI agents. To that end, the company is merging ChatGPT and Codex into one unified agentic experience and investing in a single agentic platform. This reorganization comes amid AGI boss Fidji Simo's medical leave and follows last month's changes that put Brockman in charge of product strategy while CSO Jason Kwon, CFO Sarah Friar, and CRO Denise Dresser took over business operations.
The new structure places four pillars under Brockman. Thibault Sottiaux, formerly Codex engineering lead, heads core product and platform. Nick Turley, ChatGPT head, leads critical enterprise industries. Ashley Alexander, healthcare VP, leads consumer pillars like health, commerce, and personal finance. Vijaye Raji, former CTO of applications, leads core infrastructure, ads, data science, and growth. Brockman stated the goal is to "bring agents to ChatGPT scale" to deliver significantly more value to individuals and organizations. The move aligns with OpenAI's strategic shift to focus on revenue drivers like coding and enterprise, cutting "side quests" ahead of a potential IPO and amid investor pressure to turn a profit.
