OpenAI launches personal finance assistant in ChatGPT for Pro users

OpenAI has introduced a new personal finance experience within ChatGPT, now available in preview to Pro users in the United States. The feature allows users to securely link their financial accounts via Plaid (with Intuit support coming soon), granting ChatGPT access to transaction data, portfolio performance, subscriptions, and upcoming payments. A dashboard provides an up-to-date view of where money is going, while the underlying GPT-5.5 model enables stronger reasoning for complex, context-dependent financial questions. Users can also save financial memories—like a mortgage or savings goal—to inform future conversations, making advice more personalized and complete. The company emphasizes that ChatGPT is not a replacement for professional financial advice, and users retain full control over their data.

This move leverages the fact that over 200 million people already turn to ChatGPT monthly for budgeting and investment questions. The preview is initially limited to a smaller group of Pro users on web and iOS to gather real-world feedback before expanding to Plus tier and eventually all users. Examples of supported queries include "Help me come up with a plan to save a bit more in the next few months" or comparing investment paths. By combining real financial context with conversational AI, OpenAI aims to simplify personal finance management, making it easier for individuals to spot patterns, understand tradeoffs, and plan for major decisions—all within the familiar ChatGPT interface.
