NVIDIA's New Free AI Turns Any Spreadsheet Into a Fortune Teller

Most of the world's useful business data isn't text or photos — it's tables. Customer lists, insurance claims, bank transactions, warehouse orders, sales logs. Predicting things from those tables (will this person quit? will this invoice go unpaid? how much will we sell next month?) is one of the most common jobs in business. For 20 years, companies have built a custom computer model for every single question, and each one takes weeks of expert work to get right.

NVIDIA's Kumo Tabular flips that. Instead of building a model from scratch, you show it a table where some rows already have answers, and it predicts the answers for the rows that don't — in one pass, in seconds. It's the same trick that lets chatbots handle a new request from just a few examples in the conversation, rather than being retrained. No coding, no tuning, no data cleanup rituals. You just bring the table.

NVIDIA released it openly and free for commercial use, in three sizes (the smallest runs on modest hardware). It currently ranks first on four independent testing leaderboards where researchers pit these models against each other — TabArena, BeyondArena, TALENT and ScoringBench. The code and the model itself are downloadable by anyone, which matters because competitors' versions have restrictions on business use.

Here's the honest catch. Kumo Tabular was trained only on artificial, computer-generated tables — not real customer records. That keeps it cheap and privacy-safe, but it means unusual, messy, real-world data could trip it up. It also doesn't explain its reasoning, which is a problem in regulated fields like lending or medicine. Think of it as a very fast first draft, not a final answer you'd bet the company on without checking.
