NVIDIA, Indosat, UGM launch Indonesia's first university AI center

Indonesia is pushing to build its AI workforce with a new academic hub. This week, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), NVIDIA, and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) jointly launched the UGM Indosat NVIDIA AI Technology Center — the first AI center housed at a university in Indonesia. The center is designed to accelerate AI education and research by combining NVIDIA's technology stack with Indosat's telecom infrastructure and UGM's academic expertise.

The AI center will offer students and faculty hands-on experience with NVIDIA's AI platforms, including GPUs and software tools for machine learning and data science. It also aims to localize AI curriculum and provide training programs that align with industry needs. By embedding NVIDIA's ecosystem inside a top Indonesian university, the partnership is positioned to increase the country's AI talent pool and support national digital transformation goals. The involvement of Komdigi signals government backing for AI skills development. For Indonesia, this is more than a lab — it's a strategic move to reduce dependence on foreign expertise and fuel local innovation in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and smart cities.
