PyTorch Foundation opens 2026 Contributor Awards with 9 categories

The awards span nine categories: Outstanding Ambassador, Superhero, Ecosystem Champion, Knowledge Enhancer, Bug Buster, Newcomer, Review Powerhouse, Innovator, and Catalyst. Each category targets different forms of contribution, from code innovation and bug fixing to documentation, community advocacy, and developer workflow improvements. The nomination window runs from June 17 to July 17, 2026, at 11:59 PM PT, and winners receive a complimentary ticket to the PyTorch Conference in San Jose on October 20-21, where a dedicated awards ceremony will be held.

The foundation encourages nominations for contributors of all backgrounds and roles, including open-source developers, educators, bug reporters, and longtime maintainers. Self-nominations are explicitly welcomed. To submit a strong nomination, the committee asks for concrete examples of impact—such as leading a documentation sprint that improved 150+ tutorials, resolving critical production bugs, or mentoring first-time contributors through successful pull requests. Submissions should include supporting links to GitHub PRs, tutorials, talks, or community initiatives. By recognizing both technical and non-technical contributions, the awards aim to strengthen the entire PyTorch ecosystem and attract new participants to open-source AI development.
