The team interviewed eight people who work with data professionally. Those users said the tool helped them move faster, keep their charts and numbers in sync, and feel more in control of the charts they made — treating the whole thing as a low-stakes space to poke around. The work was accepted at UIST, a respected academic conference on user interfaces.
The catch: this is a research prototype, not a product you can download. It was tested with only eight people, and there is no word yet on whether a company will turn it into real software. Still, the direction matters. Most spreadsheet pain comes from tools that force you to choose between precise numbers and visual patterns. Anything that lets you have both at once is worth watching.
