Moonshot AI restructures for $10B valuation, eyes Hong Kong IPO in 2026

Moonshot AI, the Beijing-based AI research lab founded in 2023 by Yang Zhilin, is reportedly restructuring its corporate structure to comply with new Chinese regulatory requirements as it pursues a Hong Kong IPO, targeting Asian capital markets for its primary public exit. The company is simultaneously seeking to raise its valuation to approximately $10 billion by expanding an ongoing financing round; existing backers Alibaba, Tencent, and 5Y Capital have already committed over $700 million to the first tranche. This follows a $500 million raise in January 2025 at a $4.3 billion valuation, bringing total funding to approximately $2 billion. The IPO is expected by May 2026, pending regulatory approval.

Moonshot's flagship product is Kimi K2.5, a multimodal large language model designed for Chinese-language users. It uses a 1-trillion-parameter Mixture-of-Experts architecture that loads about 32 billion parameters per token, allowing it to run on China-approved A800 and H800 GPUs. The model processes up to 256,000 tokens (roughly 2 million Chinese characters) in a single session, enabling complex document analysis across multiple PDFs, contracts, and spreadsheets. New in K2.5 is Agent Swarm, a feature that can automatically spin up to 100 sub-agents and execute up to 1,500 tool calls in parallel, significantly reducing completion times for multi-step tasks. The platform also offers specialized variants for coding (Kimi Code, Kimi-Dev), vision-language tasks (Kimi-VL), and autonomous research (Kimi-Researcher). Moonshot's business model is dual-sided: a freemium B2C subscription for consumers and usage-based B2B API licensing for developers and enterprises.
