Researchers have unveiled ML-ECS, a new framework that dramatically improves how AI models collaborate between edge devices (like phones) and the cloud. It tackles the major challenge of handling different data types (text, images) across varied devices. The system boosts performance on key metrics by 5.44% to 12.08% while being incredibly efficient, requiring communication of only 0.65% of total model parameters. This enables more powerful, private, and responsive AI applications directly on devices.
