Hong Kong minibus driver, 74, arrested for hitting elderly pedestrian, 90

Hong Kong police have arrested a 74-year-old minibus driver on suspicion of dangerous driving following a hit-and-run incident in Kwai Chung. The driver, identified as Yan, was operating a public light bus on Hing Fong Road towards Kwai Fong on Tuesday morning when he struck a 90-year-old pedestrian, Mr. Leung, who was crossing the road. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 7:24am on 188 Hing Fong Road. The elderly victim sustained a head injury and was found in a semi-conscious state, prompting immediate transport to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment. The driver, who remained at the scene, underwent a breathalyser test, which showed no alcohol in his system. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the collision, focusing on driver negligence and road safety measures for elderly pedestrians in the area. The driver has been taken into custody pending further inquiries.
