Meta's Muse Image AI lets you @mention users into photos
Now you can @mention any Instagram account to pull their likeness into AI images.
Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, led by Alexandr Wang, has unveiled Muse Image, the first AI image generation model from its new division. The model replaces the Llama lineup as the backbone of image-making tools across Meta’s ecosystem, including Instagram, WhatsApp, Meta AI, and soon Facebook and Messenger. Muse Image is described as 'agentic' – it pairs with the Muse Spark large language model to reason through prompts, search the web, and plan before generating an image. This approach aims to produce more contextually accurate and coherent outputs compared to earlier models.
A standout feature is the ability to @mention any Instagram account in a prompt. Meta says this uses publicly available photos from that account to build a visual likeness, though users can control reuse permissions. Beyond personalization, Muse Image enables room redesigns by pulling images from Facebook Marketplace or the web, and lets users make edits by drawing directly on photos. The model also powers 30 new AI effects for Instagram Stories, rolling out in the US first. Meta additionally teased a Muse Video model, promising strong prompt adherence, visual fidelity, and temporal consistency.
- Users can @mention Instagram accounts to incorporate their public likeness into AI-generated images, with user consent controls.
- Muse Image is agentic: it reasons, searches the web, and plans before generating, powered by the Muse Spark LLM.
- The model powers 30 new AI effects for Instagram Stories in the US, with global rollout planned.
