Meta AI's new Mac app shares your screen and connects to Google Workspace

Meta is entering the desktop AI race with a new Mac app for Meta AI, announced Wednesday. The headline feature is screen-sharing: users can give the chatbot a live view of their current window, enabling it to suggest next steps, answer questions about on-screen content, or draft new material based on what it sees. The app also brings system-wide dictation, allowing users to speak and have Meta AI transcribe or process text across any Mac application. This positions Meta AI closer to Google Gemini's screen-aware desktop app, while still stopping short of the computer-control capabilities offered by ChatGPT and Claude desktop versions.

Beyond the consumer features, Meta is pushing the assistant as a productivity tool for businesses and creators. The Mac app, alongside the web and mobile versions, can now connect directly to Instagram and Facebook accounts, Meta ad campaigns, and Google Workspace. The AI can analyze engagement metrics like reach, likes, shares, and saves to recommend future posts, pull data from business accounts and the web to create decks, documents, and spreadsheets, and automate recurring tasks such as weekly performance reports. By adding these workflow integrations, Meta is aiming to carve out a niche as an always-available co-pilot for creators and SMBs, competing directly with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google for daily desktop usage.
